Internship recruiters know you haven't had a job yet. They look for signs you can learn fast and finish things. Here is how to show that on one page.

## What internship recruiters look for

For an internship, nobody expects a list of jobs. A recruiter or a startup founder reading your resume wants to know three practical things: that you are interested in this kind of work, that you have tried some of it already, and that you can be relied on to show up and finish.

Every section of your resume should help answer one of those. A course you took, a project you finished or a club role you held can all count, if you describe what you actually did.

## Sections to include

- Contact details, with LinkedIn, and GitHub or a portfolio if the field uses one.
- A two-line summary that names the internship you want, the months you are free and your best evidence.
- Education, with your CGPA so far and two or three relevant courses.
- Projects: course projects, personal projects and competitions. These are often your strongest section.
- Positions of responsibility: clubs, fests, student councils, sports teams, volunteering.
- Skills and tools, grouped, and certifications that relate to the internship.

## Turning college work into resume lines

The difference between a weak and a strong line is detail. Name what you did, how, and what changed.

| Instead of | Write |
|---|---|
| Member of the marketing team for the college fest | Wrote and scheduled 40 Instagram posts for the fest; ticket sales opened two weeks earlier than last year |
| Did a project on data analysis | Analysed 3 years of college canteen sales in Excel and showed which items to cut; the canteen dropped 6 of them |
| Good communication skills | Presented our case study to a panel of three faculty and won first place out of 22 teams |
| Interested in coding | Built a to-do app in React with login and reminders; 30 classmates use it |

Only use numbers you can explain. Internship interviews often go line by line through the resume, and "roughly how many?" is a fair answer if you say it honestly.

## Tailor it to each internship

Internship postings are short, so read them closely. If a marketing internship mentions reels and Canva, put your content work first and name Canva in your skills. If a finance internship mentions Excel models, move your Excel project to the top.

Keep one master resume with everything, and make a copy for each kind of internship you apply to. In the builder, duplicate the resume and edit the copy.

## Mistakes that cost interviews

- Listing every certificate you have ever earned. Keep the three or four that relate to the role.
- Skill bars and self-ratings like "MS Office: 9/10". Name the tools and show where you used them.
- A second page. An internship resume should fit on one.
- Spelling errors in the company's name. Check it in every copy you send.
- Leaving out the dates you are available. Recruiters plan internships around them.

## How do I write a resume for an internship with no experience?

Write a one-page resume that leads with education (with your CGPA and relevant courses), then projects, positions of responsibility, skills and relevant certifications. Describe each project or role with what you did and what came of it, add a two-line summary naming the internship and the months you are free, and tailor the order to each posting.

- **Length:** One page
- **Strongest sections:** Projects and positions of responsibility
- **Add:** The months you are available
- **Template:** Plainfield or Campus Modern, free

## Questions

### Should I include school achievements on an internship resume?

In your first or second year, yes, if they are strong: Class 12 marks, olympiads, sports at state level. By your final year, college work should replace most of them.

### Do I need a cover letter for an internship?

If the application has space for a note, write four or five sentences: which internship, why this company, your best evidence and when you are free. Many startups read these closely.
