What to put on a fresher resume, in which order, and what to leave out. The sample is a B.Com graduate's resume made in the Campus Modern template.

## The order that works for freshers

With little or no work experience, your education and what you have done during it are your strongest evidence. Recruiters at campus drives and in entry-level hiring read them first, so put them first.

| Section | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Contact details | Name, phone, email, city, LinkedIn. GitHub or a portfolio link if your field uses one |
| Summary (optional) | Two lines: your degree, the role you want and your best piece of evidence |
| Education | Degree with CGPA or percentage, then Class 12 and Class 10 with board and marks |
| Internships | Role, organisation, dates and two or three lines on what you did |
| Projects | Final-year and personal projects, with tools used and a result |
| Skills | Grouped: tools, technical skills, languages |
| Positions of responsibility | Clubs, fests, societies, sports captaincy |
| Certifications and awards | NPTEL, NISM, Coursera, hackathons, ranks |

## Class 10, Class 12 and CGPA

Many Indian employers, and almost every campus placement process, ask for Class 10 and Class 12 marks, often with a cut-off. List them under your degree with the board (CBSE, ICSE or your state board), the year and the percentage or CGPA.

Write your degree grade the way your university reports it, for example "CGPA 8.1 / 10". If a form asks for a percentage and your university publishes a conversion rule, use that rule. If it doesn't, give the CGPA and the scale rather than inventing a percentage.

If you are still studying, write the expected year (2026) or "pursuing" and your CGPA so far.

## What to leave out

- Date of birth, father's name, religion, caste and marital status. These belonged to the old "biodata" format. Employers don't need them to judge your work, and you don't have to share them.
- A photo, unless the employer asks for one.
- "Objective: to work in a challenging environment." Every fresher writes it, so it tells the recruiter nothing. A two-line summary with real facts does the job better.
- The "I hereby declare that the above information is true" line. Keep it only if a form or government application asks for it.
- Hobbies, unless they show something relevant, such as a chess rating for an analyst role or running a food blog for a marketing role.

## How to write lines when you have no work experience

Treat projects, internships and responsibilities like jobs. Each line says what you did and, where you can, what came of it.

Weak: "Responsible for social media of college fest." Better: "Ran the fest's Instagram for three months; followers grew from 1,200 to 5,800." The second one has an action, a time frame and a result a recruiter can ask about.

If you don't have a number, describe the scale or the outcome instead: how many people used it, who it was for, what changed after.

## One page, and the same facts everywhere

A fresher resume should fit on one page. If yours runs over, cut older school activities and shorten project descriptions before you shrink the font.

Recruiters check that your resume matches your LinkedIn and the details you type into the application form. Keep your marks, dates and job titles the same in all three.

## What is the best resume format for freshers in India?

For freshers in India, a one-page, single-column resume works best, in this order: contact details, an optional two-line summary, education (degree with CGPA, then Class 12 and Class 10 with board and marks), internships, projects, skills, positions of responsibility, and certifications or awards. Leave out date of birth, religion, marital status and a photo unless the employer asks for them.

- **Length:** One page
- **First section:** Education, with CGPA and Class 10 and 12
- **Leave out:** Date of birth, religion, marital status, photo
- **Template:** Campus Modern or Campus, both free

## Questions

### Should a fresher resume have an objective?

A generic objective doesn't help. A short summary that names the role you want and your best piece of evidence is more useful, and you can skip it entirely if your education and projects speak for themselves.

### Should I mention backlogs?

Don't list them on your resume. If a form asks directly, answer honestly; many employers ask about active backlogs only.

### Is a two-page resume ever fine for a fresher?

Rarely. Research-heavy roles with publications can justify it, but for most fresher jobs one page is expected.
